Carthage to the Sahara

Why Tunisia

Tunisia runs from the ancient ruins of Carthage to the dunes of the Sahara, and a program crosses most of it. Mediterranean mornings at Carthage and the blue-and-white lanes of Sidi Bou Saïd; the Bardo Museum’s Roman mosaics, the finest collection in the world; the UNESCO medinas of Tunis and Kairouan; then south through the oases to the desert.

  • Explore breathtaking UNESCO World Heritage sites and historic medinas
  • Immerse yourself in Tunisia’s rich history, diverse cultures and vibrant language communities
  • Engage in hands-on workshops, local school visits and inspiring artistic encounters
  • Collaborate with fellow educators to develop shareable curriculum units and lessons

Programs take in Kairouan’s Great Mosque and a carpet-weaving workshop with local artisans, the mountain oases of Chebika, Tamerza and Ong Jemal, the salt-lake mirages of Chott El Jerid and a night under the stars near Douz. Further on: the troglodyte dwellings of Matmata, Djerba’s El Ghriba synagogue and the street art of Djerbahood, El Jem’s Roman amphitheatre and the Hammamet coast. French is spoken throughout.
